Bethmour Road Bridge Update
I am pleased to report progress on the Bethmour Road bridge and culvert project, located at our town line with Woodbridge. We have developed a Memorandum of Understanding with Woodbridge regarding the cost sharing of the entire project, including such things as the design and construction. After extensive vetting and interviews with several firms, we have selected an engineering firm for the project and are now finalizing contract details with them.
Our next step involves applying for a LOTCIP grant, which, if awarded, would cover the full cost of construction. LOTCIP awards are not announced until next year. More information on the exact timeline will be shared as soon as we have that information. Following the grant award, we will move to a competitive bid process to select a contractor. Current estimates from area engineers put the project cost at approximately $2 million.
In the meantime, my office continues to work closely with the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), the Army Corps of Engineers, and fisheries biologists to make sure we meet all environmental and permitting requirements. This is a significant undertaking and I am committed to keeping you informed as we move through each phase. Thank you for your patience as we work to get this critical piece of infrastructure rebuilt.
